内容简介(英文): 1505 T’ang Yin Watching the Waterfall From the pass between two mountains a leaping waterfall cascades straight down, then divides into streams which twist and turn, finally collecting together again in a pool in the foreground. A beardless man wearing a hat sits on the rocky bank, while a servant boy waits behind him. The handling of brush and ink is almost identical to “Fishing Alone on the Pine Stream”, and “Watching the Waterfall” was probably painted in the same year. 内容简介(英文): Gazing at the Falls T’ang Yin (1470-1523) Ming Dynasty A cascade of water plummets downward; a horizontal band of clouds encircles the waist of the mountain. Below the trees a gentleman focuses his gaze on the flow of water. This work is notable for its smooth brushwork and fluid use of ink. T’ang Yin, one of the “Four Masters of the Ming Dynasty,” studied painting with Chou Ch’en (fl. Ca. 1500-1535), but he eventually surpassed his teacher. T’ang excelled in paintings of human figures, flowers and birds, and landscapes. T’ang Yin’s style-names were Tzu-wei and Po-hu; his sobriquet was Six Suchnesses. Extremely talented, he was free-spirited and bohemian by nature. In 1498 he placed highest in the provincial examinations at Nanking, but he was later implicated in the bribing of a judge at the metropolitan exams, and was consequently disgraced and deprived of any chance at an official career. From that time on he devoted himself to poetry, painting, and calligraphy.
