His style name was Shu-ta, his sobriquet Hua-lin chü-shih. He excelled at landscape painting and studied the method of Wen Cheng-ming (1470-1559). His renderings of figures and flowers were also good. The inspiration for this painting comes from the second half of a poem by Tu Fu (712-770), which reads; The thatched gate to this place secluded for years opens, The summer river runs deep and the thatched hut is cool. Watching the fish with amusement as the boat drifts all day, Where can an old farmer get another jug of wine?
