He was good at figures and landscapes, following the methods of Wang Yuanqi (1642-1715). Sun Hu along with Chen Mei (1694-1745), Jin Kun, Dai Hong, and Cheng Zhidao painted a famous copy of Up the River on the Qingming Festival.In this painting, the landscape bears trees with brilliant red foliage. Firmiana trees grow in a courtyard and a boat is secured by the riverbank. Oxen can also be seen among the trees. Within the precisely articulated details of the composition, the viewer may ramble at will or take a rest.
