He had been a professional lacquer artisan before he met Chou Ch'en. Under Chou's teaching, he became a renowned member of artistic circles. He excelled in paintings of the categories: landscape, figure, flower-and-bird, and animal. This painting is the third leaf of the album. There are many houses in the mountain valley. Farmers drive oxen to till the land. When Ch'iu worked for the great collector Hsiang Yüan-pien (1525-1590), he copied many paintings by ancient artists. Since the painting exhibits a seal by Hsiang, it is likely that the painting was done by Ch'iu Ying while he worked for Hsiang Yüan-pien.
