Gifted at poetry, calligraphy, and painting, he was reserved by nature and a man of uncompromising taste, his works having a spare delicacy and untrammeled quality much like his character. This album in the accordion folding leaf format consists of ten leaves that depict literati in boating scenes of leisure. According to the artist’s inscription, the painting scenes were inspired by T’ang Yin (1470-1523), only the style is even more simplified and ethereal. The tenth leaf also has an inscription by Wen Ts’ung-chien (1574-1648) as well as a connoisseurship seal of Pi Juan (1730-1797).
