He became the master of Ch'ing dynasty flower painting. “Album of Imitating the Ancients” includes 11 leaves, three of which have been chosen for this exhibit. Yün, famous for his flower painting, used the “sketching from life” approach, in which he did not outline the forms but instead directly applied washes of ink and color. Particularly creative in coloring, his pigments are often watery to give a pure and translucent quality that has a down-to-earth yet ethereal feeling. This album is thus a masterpiece of his effort in painting.
