Without any outlines done in ink lines, white and ochre ink were added to bring out the fine feathers, creating a sense of fluffiness for the duck’s down. In addition, the color tones were adjusted in various parts, bringing out the luster of duck down. The legs of the duckling, on the other hand, were rendered with fine lines of ink, the webbed part of the feet intersecting to form rhomboidal patterns and creating a feeling different from that of the down. The artist apparently was quite interested in the expression of patterning and showed relatively less interest in the structure and sense of space for the forms. theless, these take nothing away from the adorable youth of this duckling, suggesting this work may date from the latter part of the Southern Song.(20101015) 内容简介（英文）： In this seemingly simple composition, the artist has depicted a tiny duckling looking out from the side of the path bearing a few clumps of weeds and grass. This, the seventh leaf from the album Li-tai hua-fu chi-ts'e, follows the style of a fine Southern Sung academic painting. The coloring throughout is elegant and light, and the rendering of the duckling is so delicate that every feather of its downy coat seems clearly delineated and soft to the touch. Even though the artist's subject is a common domestic animal, he has still artfully conveyed the duckling's natural charm and liveliness.
