The elements here are focused in the lower half of the painting, leaving the sky above to create an expansive feeling. The pyramid form of the cluster of hills is capped with a flat top. The hills are washed with ochre, the rest being done in hemp-fiber texture strokes to suggest softness. The upper parts of the hills are slightly shaded with white pigment, while the pines and distant trees were washed with mineral green.
