This album was done in 1622, when Lan Ying was 37. Composed of ten leaves altogether, this album features the styles associated with ten ancient landscape masters ranging from the T’ang (618-907) to the Yüan (1279-1368) dynasties, including Wang Wei, Fan K’uan, Tung Yüan, Chü-jan, Chao Ling-jang, Mi Fu, Li T’ang, Chao Meng-fu, Huang Kung-wang, and Wang Meng. The compositions are all orderly and precisely rendered, as the brushwork is elegant yet taut. The bright coloring and the rich contrasts of ink all mingle together harmoniously in these works. 内容简介(英文): Lan Ying, native to Qiantang in Zhejiang (modern Hangzhou), specialized in landscape and bird-and-flower subjects. In early years he followed the styles of famous Tang and Song masters, in middle years gradually forming his own later called the Wulin School. This album from 1635 features 10 copies of landscapes by Tang and Song artists. The compositions are precise and the brushwork mature, with azurite, malachite, cinnabar, ochre, and lead white colors to highlight the blue-green mountains, white clouds, and red trees with bright and beautiful hues. A combination of loose simplicity and bright archaism makes this an excellent example of Lan’s art. The leaves here are imitations after various masters, such as Wang Wei and Zhao Lingrang.(20120714)
