Composed of 12 leaves, this album depicts countryside scenes of sending off the old and welcoming the new during the Chinese New Year. The scenery includes the joyous beating of a “peace” drum as well as friends and neighbors visiting and exchanging gifts. After cleaning up home, one would buy flowers, New Year’s couplets, New Year’s pictures, and window flowers for decoration. With the home like new, offerings are made to ancestors and the heavens as firecrackers greet the New Year. In the last work here, colorful clouds symbolize good luck, bringing peace and prosperity as well as eternal happiness.
