A painter of flowers and birds in her own right, she was such an ardent disciple of Ch’en Tao-fu that she carved his portrait in wood and venerated it in her home. Although all of her paintings were executed in Ch’en’s style, she could not equal his ability. In this painting of plums there is no variation in the brush strokes among the branches, trunks, flowers, or petals, and the ink in of a uniformly weak tonality, without variation.
