He was also one of the Four Greats of the Ming. This is the 6th leaf from Joint Album of Fans by the Four Ming Greats. The back of a man sitting against a stool in a pavilion is seen beside a flowing stream with trees scattered about. A craggy pine tree coils on the rock, and the three other trees are partially blocked from view. Located in the background is a waterfall, the sound from which seems to echo through the trees. The fine texture strokes of the rocks are gentle and harmonious, similar to those in T’ang Yin’s Trip to Nanking in the Freer Gallery (Washington, D.C.). Like that scroll, it would appear that this work was also done at the age of 35.
