(20110710) 内容简介(英文): This rubbing is from a stele engraved in 164 CE for the tomb of Kong Zhou, the 19th-generation descendant of Confucius. Kong was the father of Kong Rong and, according to his biography in History of the Latter Han, served as Defender of Taishan, sparing no effort in quelling bandits. Retiring from office due to illness, he died in 163, and his disciples erected a stele to honor his achievements. The characters here are quite broad with slender and smooth lateral and diagonal strokes for a swinging manner. As a whole, it has expansiveness and majesty, yet the manner still has lightness like that of a gentleman. This stele uses the round, turning brush methods of seal script to render clerical script, making it different from other Han dynasty steles.(20110710) 内容简介(英文): This is a rubbing from a stele engraved in 164 CE for the tomb of Kong Zhou, the 19th generation descendant of Confucius. K’ung was the father of K’ung Jung, who is mentioned in the History of the Latter Han. He served as Defender of T’ai-shan and successfully quelled bandits there. However, he fell ill and resigned from office, passing away in 163. His disciples erected this stele in honor of his achievements. The stele is located at the Temple of Confucius in Ch’ü-fu. The characters are elongated horizontally and appear slender and fluid. The horizontal and diagonal strokes are especially rhythmic, as if this great figure appears before you. Borrowing the rounded turns of seal script, it differs from other Han dynasty stelae.
