收藏着录: 石渠宝笈三编(延春阁),第五册,页2228 收藏着录: 故宫书画录(卷五),第三册,页552 收藏着录: 故宫书画图录,第十一册,页61-62 内容简介(中文): 蒋廷锡(西元一六六九-一七三二年),江苏常熟人,字扬孙,一字酉君,号西谷、南沙。历官文华殿大学士,有政声。未第时与顾雪坡游,善写生。在朝为官后,矜重不苟作,偶为一二,又为宫禁所宝,流传真蹟绝少。牡丹两枝,一墨染、一双钩,花后衬以淡墨,遂使突出纸面,颇见精神。花托嫩叶及叶背皆以淡墨和微赭为之,是水墨中创法。 内容简介(英文): Chiang T’ing-hsi, a native of Kiangsu province, served as Grand Secretary of the Wen-hua Hall. Before taking office, he befriended Ku Hsüeh-p’o and enjoyed painting from nature. After becoming an official, Chiang’s paintings became more carefully executed and done only occasionally. His works were treasures of the Forbidden City, so few examples found their way to the public. Two peonies-one executed in washes and one in outline-are depicted in this work. After being delineated, a pale wash was added to lend a three-dimensional effect and capture their spirit. The brush moves with lively energy, and the application of pale sienna to the undersides of the leaves is an innovation in monochrome ink painting of the day.
