Chekiang. His style name was Fu-ts’un and his sobriquet was Tung-shan. Tung Pang-ta received his chin-shih degree in 1733, and because of his broad knowledge and investigative skills was brought to the court and made an assistant editor in the compilation of the palace collection catalogues, such as Shih-ch’ü pao-chi., etc. He later served as President of the Board of Rites. Tung Pang-ta was fond of painting and calligraphy, and his landscape paintings follow the style of the Yüan masters. In a bamboo grove by a cliff, a white-robed Kuan-yin sits in meditation stop a large rock. Eyes are lowered in deep meditation; the countenance of the face is compassionate. The brushwork of the entire painting is relaxed and elegant.
