Extending down from above and in the same direction is an elegant branch from a peach tree bearing fruit and blossoms. Fungi and peaches are symbols of long life in Chinese art and are used to convey blessings to the recipient. The soft, subdued, and graceful coloring of this tapestry, combined with the refined workmanship, create for a masterpiece in the art. This is the first leaf from the album Sung Yüan ming-hui ts’e. 内容简介（英文）： Woven in colors against a white background are some spirit fungi and orchids by a rock with the branch of a peach tree extending from above laden with blossoms and large fruit. The spirit fungus and flat peach are symbols of longevity in China and thus auspicious objects, while the orchid represents the pure and lofty recluse scholar. Consequently, this work was not only used to congratulate someone’s birthday and to wish long life, it also praises the lofty virtues of the recipient.This tapestry is mostly in blue, yellow, and ochre colors, the hues harmonious and elegant. The weaving is also exquisite, the “knotting” method used to outline the edges of the spirit fungi, leaves, and peaches. The lines are graceful and precise, the “flinging” method depicting the fading colors and thus expressing a sense of light and shading, revealing the volume and richness of the peaches. As a result, it makes this a great work of Sung dynasty tapestry.This is the first leaf in the album “Famous Paintings of the Sung and Yüan.”
