He spent a long period of time studying and copying them to form his foundation in painting. Wang specialized in painting birds-and-flowers, becoming a master in this subject during the early Ch’ing dynasty.This album consists of ten leaves depicting such blossoms as peony, crape myrtle, lotus, amaranth, and chrysanthemum in the “sketching ideas” manner. The twisting and bending of the leaves as well as the stems and branches create a harmonious relationship. Although the brushwork looks sketchy and free, it does not lack finesse, revealing Wang Wu’s refined and delicate brushwork.
