收藏着录： 故宫书画录（卷八），第四册，页144 收藏着录： 故宫书画图录，第二十四册，页278-279 内容简介（中文）： 蒋廷锡，江苏常熟人（西元一六六九至一七三二），字扬孙，一字酉君，号西谷，南沙。历官文华殿大学士，有政声，未第时与顾雪坡游，善写生。在朝为官后，矜重不苟作，偶为一二，又为宫禁所宝，流传眞迹绝少。 本幅画石榴，绿叶先以墨句，而后填彩，艳丽出尘，出枝布叶，有条不紊，更见构图功力，蝴蝶画法以煤烟，乌亮至极，配以朱斑，尤具醒目。 内容简介（英文）： Chiang T’ing-hsi, a native of Chiang-shu, Kiangsu, had Yang-sun and Yu-chün as his tzu (style name), and Hsi-ku and Nan-sha as his hao (sobriquet). He served as a Grand Secretary in the Wen-hua Hall. Before taking public office, Chiang was a good friend of Ku Hsüeh-p’o and enjoyed painting from nature. But after becoming an official at court, he did not paint lightly as before. His rare paintings consequently came to be highly valued in the palace. And as he painted so rarely there remains only a few of his works. This painting depicts pomgranetes, whose leaves are first outlined in ink and then added with color wash. The arrangement of the branches and leaves are both natural and well ordered, revealing the artist’s talented skill in composition. The application of a mixtue of soot and glue achieves the glossy black of the butterflies’ wings which are sparkled with eye-arresting red dots. The butterflies are simply charming.
