Carved beams and ornamental windows adorn the building on it, creating a majestic and refined scene. The dragon’s head is raised with clear features, mouth open to reveal its teeth and tongue. The boat is also covered with dense scales in imitation of a dragon’s body, while the tail curls up to create an awe-inspiring appearance. This painting probably represents the emperor in the imperial dragon boat viewing the races.The two-story pavilion on the boat has a four-ridge, hip-and-gable, double-eave roof with finials. Suspended arcing corridors connect with other areas and a flying tower level makes it appear like a celestial palace. Li Song specialized in figure, flower, and ruled-line painting, his brushwork exceedingly fine and realistic. He served as a Painter-in-Attendance under Emperors Guangzong, Ningzong, and Lizong.(20101015)
