I hold the ch’in but do not pluck the strings, for the sky and the earth know the music I would play.” The painting is in the poem and the poem in the painting. “Thinking of the ch’in” was probably done when Shen Chou was 62. 内容简介（英文）： Shen Chou(1427-1509), a native of Soochow, was known for his magnanimous character and was one of the Four Masters of the Ming. Judging from the content of the painting and the inscription here, this work should be entitled “Thoughts on a Zither in the Shade of Plantain.” A figure sits alone holding a zither as a plantain tree grows next to a rock. Just the right amount of ink suggests the coolness of the scene. The inscription states, “Summer does not penetrate the shade of plantain as thoughts drift to the past. I hold a zither but do not play it. For heaven and earth know my music.” This explains the painting and the idea beyond it. With the beauty of the calligraphy, this is a good example of the Three Perfections (poetry, calligraphy, and painting).
